La decisión tendría impacto en parejas, familias y empresas

El presidente Donald Trump fue escueto, pero contundente en su tuit sobre la orden ejecutiva que prohibirá la inmigración a los Estados Unidos mientras se enfrenta la pandemia por coronavirus.

Sin embargo, según The New York Times, el plan contempla detener la aprobación de Residencia Permanente, principalmente petición familiar y por matrimonio, pero no queda claro lo que ocurriría con aquellos considerados “no inmigrantes” con visas de trabajo que también podrían ser patrocinados para “green card” por sus empleadores.

También se planea evitar la aprobación de visas de trabajo, las cuales son más de 20 categorías, como las H-1B, las H-2B y las H-2A, las L, entre otras.

“Bajo una orden ejecutiva de este tipo, la administración Trump ya no aprobaría ninguna solicitud de extranjeros para vivir y trabajar en los Estados Unidos por un período de tiempo indeterminado”, adelanta el Times tras consultar a varias fuentes familiarizadas con la decisión. “(Esto estaría) cerrando efectivamente el sistema legal de inmigración”.

Se desconoce la base legal sobre la cual se sustentaría la decisión y qué pasaría con los trámites en curso, pero se adelanta que incluso aquellas personas con visas autorizadas no podrían viajar a los EEUU.

“Aunque algunos trabajadores en algunas industrias consideradas críticas podrían estar exentos de la prohibición”, según las fuentes.

Según datos del diario, las visas emitidas de 2016 a 2019 bajaron un 25%, al pasar de 617,752 a 462,422.

Datos de la oficina de Servicios de Ciudadanía e Inmigración (USCIS) indican que procesa más de 300,000 peticiones de “green card” al año.
